The Friends of the Bartow County Library System is made up of community members dedicated to assisting the development and improvement of services in the library.  Friends believe that any community with a modern, well-equipped library with an up-to-date collection is a better place to live.  Friends view the library as a dynamic educational force and the cultural and research center of the community.View our membership page for more details on how you can help create better library services for everyone.

Executive Board

Elections to the Board of Directors are held during the October annual meeting, usually in the third week of the month, and members serve entirely as volunteers.

The Friends of the Library Board meets the second Tuesday of the month at 6:00pm in the Cartersville Public Library Conference Room to plan fundraisers and advocacy for the library system.

What We Have Funded

The Friends of the Library presents an annual donation to the library system to help purchase library materials, fund special programs, support literacy programs, provide programs for adults and children, and support the Summer Reading Program.

Membership

The Friends of the Bartow County Library System is an association of community members that value our library and advocates support through membership and volunteer participation.

The Friends of the Bartow County Library System holds quarterly meetings open to the general membership. These meetings are usually followed by a program or event.

A membership term runs for a full year beginning from October 1st, ending September 30th of the following year. Memberships are not prorated for a partial year.

Events

Booksale

The Friends sell used books and media to support the library.  The Friends take donations of books, DVD’s, music CD’s, puzzles, VHS Tapes and computer games. Please bring your gently used items in boxes or bags to the circulation desk at the main library. Donations are accepted during regular Library hours. Do not place any donations in outside drop boxes. (Readers digest condensed books, instructional material in binders and magazines are not accepted.)

The sales are held on the first Saturdays of the month in March, June, September and December.

Quarterly Programs

After Hours: MayFest
Friday, May 1st from 6:30 pm – 8 pm

Come by the library for this special After Hours event and take part in our celebration of spring with the ancient traditions of May Day. Don your flower crowns, faerie wings, and ankle bells and join us in dancing around the May Pole! We will have live music performed by Keltic Kudzu, dance presentations and more surprises.

Donations

Monetary donations to ‘Friends of the Library’ are welcome, and will be used to support programs, purchases, and technology for the Bartow County Library System. Donations may be made preferably by including with a completed FOL Membership Form, then bringing them to the library front desk or mailing to : Friends of the Library, 429 W. Main St., Cartersville, GA 30120. Donations qualify as tax-deductible to a non-profit, and a receipt will be issued if desired.
Donations of items for the the quarterly FOL Book & Media Sales may be made at any time during the year, by bringing items to the front desk inside the Cartersville location at 429 W. Main St..(Items should not be left in or near the collection bins either inside or outside the library). The following items are accepted for the Book Sales:

  • Books (paperback or hardcover)
  • Puzzles
  • DVD’s
  • VHS tapes
  • Music or computer CD’s
  • Computer games
