Season of Wonder at the Cartersville Public Library

December 2022

Presenting a season filled with live music, crafts, movies, and many more magical activities, all completely free. Bring the family and spend time in our winter wonderland of trees decorated by local schools.

Craft Stations Inside the Library

Monday, December 5th through Saturday, December 10th, all day!

  • Make & Take Holiday Craft Kit for Kids: Drop by the Children’s Desk to make a Christmas tree ornament out of cupcake wrappers, sequins and tinsel! While supplies last.
  • Cards of Light: Create a card for an elderly person in your community this holiday season! We will provide all the materials to make your card, and we will deliver the cards to local nursing homes and elder care communities in Bartow County on December 19th
  • Paper Trees: Create a cute paper tree using the provided pattern and scissors. Decorate your tree and leave it for us to display or take it with you to decorate your own home.

Take-Home Spice Kits: Gingerbread Hot Cocoa
Kits available all month long!

Stop by the front desk at any of our branches during December to pick up a yummy Gingerbread Hot Cocoa Spice Kit! Each kit will include a pack of spices and a recipe, as well as information about the history of hot cocoa.

Grand Theatre Holiday Stories for Kids
Saturday, December 3rd from 11 am – 12 pm

Join us for a morning of fun and festive holiday themed interactive stories, featuring the Grand Theater and you!

Toddler/Preschool Holiday Crafts
Tuesday, December 6th from 10 am – 11:30 am

Drop in for some holiday themed crafts for younger kids, ages toddler to 5 years of age. We will be making a washi tape glass ornament ball and a paper cut tree craft!

North Pole Sled Races
Wednesday, December 7th from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Drop in and make a bobsled craft and race with other sleds! Ages 5 and up.

Family Movie Matinee: Arthur Christmas
Saturday, December 10th from 1 pm – 3 pm

Stop by the library today for a showing of Arthur Christmas on the big screen! We will have freshly popped popcorn and drinks, and we invite you to bring your own snacks. Creation Station for Kids: Wreath Ornaments
Tuesday, December 13th from 4 pm – 7:30 pm

Drop in and make a mini-wreath ornament! Children under age 12 must be accompanied by a parent.

Live Holiday Music with Darla and Don Wilmot
Tuesday, December 13th from 5 pm – 7 pm

Join us for an evening of live flute and trombone music by Darla and Don Wilmot, a musical husband and wife duo of retired military musicians. Enjoy the holiday music inside the Cartersville Library, as Darla and Don play on the balcony above the main desk.

Live Holiday Music with the Etowah Jazz Society
Wednesday, December 14th from 4 pm – 6 pm

Join us for an evening of holiday music by members of the Etowah Jazz Society inside the Cartersville Library. Browse books, stroll through our winter wonderland of trees, or sit back and enjoy as music pours down from the balcony in the main library.

Snack Break for Kids
Thursday, December 15th from 4 pm – 5 pm

Christmas Baking and Cranapple Cider – Make some reindeer munchies, gingerbread treats, and delicious cranapple cider!

Family Movie Matinee: Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Monday, December 19th from 1 pm – 3 pm

Stop by the library today for a showing of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas on the big screen! We will have freshly popped popcorn and drinks, and we invite you to bring your own snacks. Picture Book Putt-Putt
Friday, December 30th from 2 pm – 5 pm

Drop by the Children’s Department and play through six holes of library mini-golf featuring some of your favorite children’s book characters, including Pete the Cat, Dog Man, Bad Kitty and more!

Handmade for the Holidays

A week of handmade craft classes at the Cartersville Library, perfect for adults or families! Please note, all children must be accompanied and assisted by an adult during Handmade for the Holidays classes.

Cinnamon Stick Santas
Monday, December 12th from 3 pm – 4 pm

Create a tiny Santa using a cinnamon stick, paint, and textural medium. We will have plenty of supplies for you to make multiple Santas. These make cute gift toppers or ornaments!

Macramé Ornaments
Tuesday, December 13th from 3 pm – 4 pm

Make a macramé star using simple tying techniques and use it to decorate or give it as a handmade gift to friends or family!

Snow Globe Mason Jars
Wednesday, December 14th  from 3 pm – 4 pm

Create your own gift jar with a snow globe on top using an ornament and festive figurines. We will make the jars today and make a scrub that can be stored inside the jars tomorrow!

Choose-Your-Scent Sugar Scrubs
Thursday, December 15th from 3 pm – 4 pm

Make your own sugar scrub, then choose your favorite festive scent for the finishing touch. Remember to bring your Snow Globe Mason Jar to store the sugar scrub for a cute gift!

Beaded Snowflake Ornaments
Friday, December 16th from 3 pm – 4 pm

Create a beautiful snowflake using wire and beads. Hang it on your tree or in a window to sparkle in the light!
